AuDITIONS FOR THE 2024-25 SEASON ARE COMPLETE. SCHEDULING FOR THE 2025-26 SEASON WILL OPEN IN MAY 2025.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Woodwind and Brass musicians should prepare approximately 2-3 total minutes of music consisting of two contrasting excerpts (one fast/technical and one slow/lyrical) from the standard solo and/or etude repertoire for their instrument.

Additionally, students should prepare:

• full range chromatic scale
• selected major scales
• sightreading will be provided

Percussionists should prepare a solo/etude (2 minutes maximum) on one of the following instruments, and be prepared to sightread on the other two instruments:

• Snare (Concert Style) 
• Mallets (Etude: 2 or 4-Mallet Solo | Sight Reading: 2-Mallet Solo)
• Timpani (Etude: 3+ drums | Sight Reading: 2 Drums )

Additionally, students should demonstrate proficient skills on the following:

• Mallets: all 12 major scales (All-State style)
• Mallets: chromatic scale (3 octaves) 
• Snare: a given rudiment from the Percussive Arts Society International Rudiments, slow-fast-slow
• Snare: multiple bounce/buzz roll, p<f>p
• Timpani: fp roll
• Timpani: tuning all 4 drums to a given tuning
• Accessories: sightreading on one of the following: tambourine, triangle, bass drum, crash cymbals, castanets 

String Bass, Piano, and Harp players should prepare 2-3 minutes of music from the standard solo and/or etude repertoire for their instrument. Major scales may be asked and sightreading will be provided.

In general, students should avoid using GMEA All-State audition etudes or short orchestral excerpts.

Auditions are evaluated on the basis of quality of sound, intonation, technical facility, articulation, rhythmic accuracy, time, musicianship and expression, stage presence, and poise.

Auditions will be held at Lakeside High School at 3801 Briarcliff Road, NE Atlanta, GA 30345.
